Where to Watch This Summer’s Sport in Central London
Matches are kicking off, shots are being served and crowds are gathering at pubs around every turn, which can only mean the summer of sport has arrived. Here’s where to catch all the action in St James’s this summer.
Your Tennis is Served…
Have you heard? Our famous Wimbledon big screen is back for another year. Catch all the tournament’s action over in St James’s Market, where you’ll find summer-style deckchair seating, traditional British summertime treats (think Pimm’s, and strawberries and cream in abundance) and more to bring the sunshine even if the weather itself isn’t playing ball.
Plus, when the day’s tennis is over, head to one of St James’s outdoor drinks or dining spots to round things off nicely.
Catch the World Cup
With North America hosting the World Cup this year, matches will be kicking off at a variety of times between 5pm and 5am in the UK.
For those early evening games, head over to The American Bar at The Stafford for a celebratory drink and a bite to eat in the courtyard.
If you’re looking for the classic pub atmosphere, there’s a few locations nearby that you can’t miss. The Red Lion and The Chequers Tavern will be screening all of England’s games, as well as St James Tavern, famously frequented by Charles Dickens in days gone by.
And finally… if all that cheering has left you with an appetite, head over to Uzbek restaurant Oshpaz for their famous lamb plov, served to celebrate the country’s first ever qualification for the World Cup.
A Celebration of Your Own
If you’re all about the fresh air and good company, we know just how best to catch your favourite sports in action. It could be the Stanley Cup, US Open or Grand Prix series that takes your fancy - or something else entirely! Bring your smartphone to stream the action, head to one of our outdoor spaces and gather a couple of friends to enjoy an al-fresco picnic from Fortnum & Mason as you watch.
